Jubal Brown is a video producer and multi-media artist based in Toronto, Canada who gained notoriety in 1996 when he deliberately vomited in color on paintings at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto.[1]
Brown's target at MoMA was Piet Mondrian's Composition With Red and Blue, which he targeted in order to counteract the piece's "lifelessness.".[2] At the Art Gallery of Ontario he targeted Raoul Dufy's Harbor at Le Havre with red. It is believed he'd planned a yellow attack, which he never carried out although he wasn't charged with the vandalism in New York and Toronto.[3] Although the museum officials at the MoMA initially believed his action to be an accident, Brown later admitted that he viewed his actions as artistic.[4]
